All forms of online communication and engagement have their place. Blogging has it’s own special place and so does twitter.
Social media tools such as twitter and facebook may help get the message to the right audience for now, but you can’t control whether tomorrow they will stay or whether they will go.
Your self-hosted blog (a blog which is set up on your own domain) is here to stay, on your own platform, where you make the rules. Once you publish your post, it can be announced on twitter or facebook, no problem.
