</p><p>Whether you are running your business from an office with the constant interruption of colleagues, or whether you are running your business from home with the constant distractions of the family, or even if it&#8217;s just you and you can&#8217;t hold your attention on one job, the act of multi-tasking is inevitable.</p>
<p>In the same way that we as marketeers are trying to capture the attention of our target audience, there are many many things in day-to-day life that are crying out for our attention.</p>
<p>This video from <a href="http://www.fastcompany.com/article/work-smart-stop-multi-tasking-and-do-one-thing-at-a-time">Fast Company</a> brings the dangers of multi-tasking to the surface:</p>
<p><center><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" data="http://service.twistage.com/plugins/player.swf?v=e5aeca2fc006f&#038;p=fc_social" height="275" id="embedded_player"><param name="movie" value="http://service.twistage.com/plugins/player.swf?v=e5aeca2fc006f&#038;p=fc_social"/><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"/><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/><param name="base" value="http://service.twistage.com"/><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"/></object></center></p>
<p>It&#8217;s time to stop multi-tasking and start focusing on one thing at a time and doing it very well.</p>
<p>A post on <a href="http://www.dumblittleman.com/2009/08/multi-tasking-vs-mono-tasking.html">Multi-Tasking vs Mono-Tasking</a> gives us tips on how to focus on doing one thing really well. Here&#8217;s a selection:</p>
<ul>
<li>set a time limit for working intensely</li>
<li>recognise when you&#8217;re losing focus</li>
<li>minimise interruptions</li>
<li>write down distractions</li>
</ul>
<p>What tips do you have for minimising multi-tasking?</p>
<p>If you flip it on it&#8217;s head, what can you learn from it about how best to capture the attention of your target audience to provide something that will be of real value to them?</p>
